Subject: An hour and a half

Is how long I spent on the phone with Comcast to setup my new modem, but it was absolutely worth it.

Last week I found a nearly brand new Arris/Motorola Surfboard SB6141 modem at the Thrift Store which I picked-up for all of $4, deciding it was finally time to stop paying Comcast their monthly rental fee for their modem. I finally got around to hooking it up today, fully expecting to be on the phone with Comcast for awhile to get it setup.

What I didn't account for is the fact that it was apparently still attached to someone else's account. The tech on the phone was really nice though and went the extra mile for me, calling the previous owner to ensure it could be taken off their account. Well, after waiting for a good 20 minutes on hold, the tech came back on the line and told me that the other customer had actually spent some time cursing him out and using all kinds of "bad words" before hanging-up on him. The tech was persistent, however and after another 20 or so minute hold, came back on the line after having talked to the customer again and was able to get everything activated for me.

For some reason, I'd just been excessively lazy and never had much incentive to accomplish this in the past, but I'm glad I finally picked up my own modem for interwebs. It'll knock $13 off our bill per month as soon as I get the old one returned, which I'm going to make sure I get done tomorrow morning.
