I'm surprised that anyone takes Blizzard's writing or so-called lore seriously.

In D3, don't bother to increase the difficulty beyond Normal. You won't get any significant XP increase. Instead, use XP-based gear, jewelry, and gems when you start getting sockets. In addition to normal rifts, try to do as many bounties as you can stand so you can get crafting books. You want to craft a Cain set at about level 22 or 23, I think. This will increase XP gain. Don't sell your crafting mats and try to avoid spending money altogether unless you really need to. You'll need the mats and money at crucial times. Anyway, just concentrate on XP. You'll figure it out. At level 70, the real game starts.
