Pretty much nailed it on the first video (And I pretty much always agree with Jim per the second, so no comment). It also incentivizes developers disabling modding support, because if you can get it for free, why ever pay for it?
Triple AAA development is pretty much in the shitter at this point anyway. They all march to the same tune and end-up doing the same thing, copying each other ad nauseam; trying to do everything they can to squeeze blood from the stone for their Shareholders.
Which, I suppose is fine; any game I've found myself spending a lot of time in recently is either old (Diablo) or more...AA? Indie? I have no idea what to call it, but Battletech is great and I can't stop playing it.
We're so spoiled with good games these days, not to mention the ability to play old stuff that's been updated for a modern OS, I see no reason to even bother playing most, if any, cynical "AAA" games these days.
