Its been a long time since I used gentoo....I always just considered it more of a distro to learn on than anything serious.
Right now I'm running Manjaro on my Thinkpad; it runs most things a little better than Windows, including games running through Wine, but I almost never use it for that. For some reason Windows 10 on this thing is horrible.
Linux used to be unusable as a desktop OS, but it's not that bad anymore. All the distros have their own set of minor issues with them, so I guess it's just whatever you feel like putting up with. When I encrypted my drive in Manjaro, it defaulted the iteration time to 15 seconds; so it waits that long to do anything after entering a password. Annoying, but not that hard to change.
