Mice and raccoons are also native to Colorado, is your house full of those? Just listen to yourself. The point of maintaining a yard in a neighborhood is to create a domesticated zone that's separate from your environment. It sounds like you are wanting to either live in a trailer park or a farm in the country. You have enough foot traffic that someone decided to put sidewalks in your neighborhood, which probably means you not only fall under whatever rules of the neighborhood, but also the residential zoning laws for your town/city, which usually do not allow native grasslands for your yard.
Honest question though: Right now, how many plastic child toys are laying out in your backyard?
