RE: I will never be worthy
I'm working on a reissue of Revell's Outlaw by Ed Roth. This is not a good project for someone who's been away from models as long as I have.
It's extremely fragile and fiddly, with lots of weird little spidery parts that were not molded very well. I've had to redo half of the fittings because the instructions don't correctly illustrate the parts, or the sprue trees misidentify them, or because the build order wasn't thought through by engineers or tech illustrators or whoever. Practically every pin hole has required re-drilling, and the thing is encrusted everywhere with flash. The chassis is a mass of design gaffs, necessitating that little parts pass through other little parts, so there's a lot of tweezering and use of poster putty to hold things while trying not to snap rods and gizmos that look like cobwebs.
I have no very clear idea how to paint the interior, which has lots of curved surfaces and two-tone pleating. Air-brushing seems to be the way to go, but I'll have to do a perfect job of masking, and I am by no means skilled at this. The instrument panel is tiny and only barely etched into the dash surface. I managed to find some gauge decals the right size, which is a very good thing since I could never paint those teeny little dial faces.
It is a tribulation.
