For reasons I can't explain, I sort of like the Borderlands "second wind" thing. This perversely heightens the enjoyment of frantic gunfights, and Gearbox manages it well. It's an old convention which, I suppose, evolved from the dispensation of extra "lives" in arcade and early console games. I'm out of my depth here historically, since my gaming experience only started with Build titles, Quake, etc.
