To tack on a bit at the end: There's also a similar mechanic commonly used in action oriented sidescrollers with HP systems like Dead Cells, called the magic pixel save or 1 HP save, where if you get walloped by an attack that does more than X% of your total life and it would have killed you, you get put at one HP instead of being killed outright as a final saving throw.
