Thanks to Dish Network, I don't have HBO, but this sounds similar to The Night Of. Somebody thought it would be a good idea to make a miniseries about a Pakistani-American prison inmate and a shabby lawyer. There were two plots trying to punch each other to death. One was about the convict's slow transformation into a hardened convict. The other was about the lawyer's valiant struggle with foot eczema. I'll let you guess which plot was more depressing and pointless.
