While my AMD-based processor sample size is small, I've had negligible stability/performance issues, and in those rare events, it would have been impossible for me to attribute to any specific piece of hardware.
As for current motherboards for AMD, I think all northbridge functionality is integrated in the CPU, leaving only a discrete southbridge which AMD produces even on the low end. That likely makes performance and stability consistent across manufacturers and models, so you don't have to be too worried when choosing a part.
