Yeah, the HP 3455A that I recently bought is also "frivolous". While the digital section of the meter is obviously dated as you'd expect from something released in the late 70s, the analog section is an example of a design that is still quite relevant. I'd say it's an impressive engineering feat, but then again, it would be reasonable to expect that from something which was the cost of a car when new. Luckily, since many domestic sellers on ebay don't like shipping internationally, so much good lab equipment can be had for pennies, or fractions of pennies on the dollar.
