Subject: Hobbies are stupid

I've been trying Testors Model Master acrylic paints. Remember when you painted something using those little bottles of Testors enamel and how pigmented it was? You surely remember their darkish blue. No other paint looked like it. Anyway, that's what Model Master acrylic looks like, except it's an acrylic and it's been thinned for airbrush use.

However, I wonder if you can thin Model Master enough or too much? It's not fooling around with the pigmentation. As an acrylic, it dries fast. I think it dries too fast, actually, which can lead to lots of dry-tip on your airbrush and, in turn, bad outcomes like orange peel, splattering, and big gouts of paint clogging up things and being hard to clean.

Yet I think if I can control the dry-tip, I won't have to give up MM. People who have figured out how to manage the drying thing really like MM, precisely because of their interesting colors.

Well, I will try using a Q-tip frequently to keep the needle unobstructed. Also, I will soon be trying out some Tamiya acrylics in basic colors. Yes, I may have figured out how to buy Tamiya paint from someone who actually has it in stock in the U.S., namely MegaHobby, who I like anyway for other reasons.

Stand by for more in-depth reports as my current project proceeds. If you're interested, it's an AMT 1970 Plymouth AAR Cuda.
