While I'm on Tamiya, I must say that they may be the most mysterious company I've had dealings with. Their models are renowned as the gold standard in every genre. I've never bought one, but I would like to get one to see what the fuss is about. I have bought some of their other products, and I can tell you this about them:

1. They're expensive. Some might say overpriced.

2. They don't like to operate outside Japan. I have mentioned previously how they could massively increase their profits by doing so, but they don't seem to want to.

3. Because of number 2 above, you often have to wait a long time to receive their stuff.

4. When you get it, you initially wonder why you paid so much and waited so long for some decal scissors or a pair of tweezers or a hobby knife. When you use them, however, there's something about their quality that is both subtle and unmistakable. Whatever OEM they got to make the tweezers or scissors or whatever clearly had to meet certain standards and adhere to a design that is just a tiny bit different than other people's. It is that tiny bit that makes the difference. I don't say that it justifies the cost or the national agoraphobia, but it's special and I think it matters.
