Right when I was getting my full license I saw in a farmer's field in western Michigan an Alfa Romero Spyder--bright red, convertable. I started saving my pennies (was $2500 IIRC) for it, only to have my really rich friend buy it on a lark. I went out to his place to accept the offered ride (we were heading to see "Pee Wee's Big Adventure", driving that Alfa from Grand Haven where he lived up to Muskegon). Got to the end of his street, whereupon a u joint gave way and his drive shaft wound up on the ground. I dodged one right there, because it was nearly $3K to fix IIRC.
So we borrowed his sisters convertable Jeep for our little road trip.
(First time I smoked weed too, which was EXACTLY how Pee Wee was best enjoyed.)
