You have inspired me to keep the difficulty in my game on Very Hard. It seems more in keeping with my level and is not much more troublesome than Normal or Hard. Gunfights last slightly longer and I occasionally find a use for my six billion stimpacks. I'm still not using armor, as I prefer to run around in my rags with ballistic weave.
Also, after some basic research, I learned to use console commands to reposition workshop objects at interesting angles. This will make a big difference in settlement building without having to download Place Everywhere.
