I drove a 4-speed Toyota for years and years. Maybe technically it was a 5-speed since it had a fifth gear for highway travel. It was a bit fiddly in town traffic, especially at traffic lights on upgrades during snow storms, but you learn to use your emergency brake creatively. Anyway, I liked it a lot, along with its crank windows and key-entry door locks. It was a pleasure to drive. New cars are better, of course, but the old tech was fine once it got past using a hand crank for starting.
