The main reason ray tracing is so subtle is that modern games look *really* great.
Most now have problems with reflectivity: foliage outlines agains a distant water reflection; shader effects such as HUD outlines on enemies showing up as reflections on nearby reflective surfaces; obvious lighting errors on models in darker/transitional areas. These go away with RT.
It isn't something to throw money at, but the real decision is the cost difference between two otherwise comparable-performance cards. A 1660 vs a 2060 is about 50$ and 2060 is better on non-RT benchmarks.
They also do DLSS which is shitty upsampling which looks shitty, but might be usefull to people who cannot maintain framerate at native 4k
