Subject: RE: WAU! What a terrorific audience

I guess what I was trying to get at was more of a philosophical question about what's worthwhile to put in a game that isn't a core element. In the case of SOMA, the monsters are certainly a core elements. Sure, they could have not had them, but then obviously it would have been a very different game, whereas omitting the puzzles would have probably gone unnoticed. Just to be clear, I'm not actually arguing for or against them. I suppose if they made them more substantial, then they would have also become a core element, and maybe that would have been ok too. I'm just using a particular thing from a particular game as an example, and I'm not implying that this is limited to SOMA. There's definitely better examples out there of egregious use of developer resources. RAGE with its little racing bit immediately springs to mind. That was so bizarre not only because it hardly fit in with the game (and rightfully got panned hard for it), but also because id has generally been a responsible and focused developer.
