When we consider the times of their respective release dates, Q2 may have been more of a stand-out game than Q4 was. I do think Q2 felt more like it was set in some cold, clinical and unwelcoming alien environment partially because it wasn't particularly cramped and maybe also because of tech limitations at the time preventing the use of much environmental detail. As far as we can tell, the Strogg's primary business in Q2 was intergalactic shipping of goods in metal crates. For me, I think Q4's biggest accomplishment was improving on the design of the enemies, and that nothing was particularly broken. Even the NPCs that would occasionally aid you weren't totally useless.
