Ironically, advanced has always been harder than expert due to the drastically lowered skill ceiling, you'll find way more selfish dumbos perfectily willing to ventilate you with the combat shotgun in order to shoot a single zombie behind you. The people playing on expert usually know what they're doing and it only takes two really good players to break the game on most campaigns.
Let me know next time you play, I need a break from Spelunky 2.
