RE: PILE OF SHIT
Goldfinger was idiotic, and so were all the other ones with Connery. Roger Moore was embarrassing. The interruptions -- George Lazenby and Timothy Dalton -- weren't bad. Pierce Brosnan destroyed some decent scripts because he couldn't decide whether he was Bond or a shirt model.
And then there was Casino Royale, which was basically a reset of the whole Bond film ethos. Craig was exactly how I pictured a real 007 operative -- skillful, efficient, self-reliant, and completely outside the rule of law or convention. This Bond saved the franchise.
I confess that I haven't seen some of the other Craig Bond movies, so I can't speak to the claims that the series degenerated.
