You can take any manufacturer and compare their equivalent AMD/Intel boards and you will consistently see more frequent bios updates for AMD. Look at the RAM compatibility pages for the boards and AMD will almost always be a shorter list.
I would guess that your anecdote applies to an AMD system you built that was already 1 generation or more behind since you're already trying to cut costs by picking AMD to begin with. Try using any of their latest generation hardware and then claim it's stable. This is why all the CPU benchmark ranking lists are dominated by Intel. By the time an AMD machine is stable enough to overclock, it's already a year old.
