I remember being excited getting 15Kbs download speeds on my 56k.

Also, check out the Vita next, it's a great handheld too and I regularly switch off between it and my 3DS. With PKGj, you can download anything from the store for free, including PSP and PS1 titles. Adrenaline runs all PSP games perfectly and with Moonlight you can stream your gaming PC to it; it can be a little jank to use with the rear touchpad acting as four different inputs depending on location, but it works well enough that I can play Witcher 3 and Yakuza 0 that way.

Get a Vita 2000 for the in built memory, then you can easily hack it and grab an SD2Vita for essentially unlimited storage, without having to worry about picking up an expensive Vita memory card first.
