Subject: RE: Had to buy new tubes for desk amp...

You're making this unnecessarily complicated. You don't actually need to worry about a crossover. If you find that the overlapping frequencies between your speakers and sub has a significant effect on the SPL at those frequencies (which you probably won't, tbh), then you can just EQ them down a bit from your computer and the problem is solved. If you get passive speakers then obviously you'll need to choose an amp, and I still maintain that you'll be better off for your use case with the powered monitors I mentioned because the built-in amp has been tuned for the drivers and enclosure and the sound quality is almost certainly going to be better than with the daytons and whatever chinese amp. It'll cost you around the same amount of money too. Almost every $50+ pair of speakers have a ton of good reviews, so it's hard to gauge them relative to something else. It's pretty much guaranteed that the JBL or Audioengine monitors are going to be way better than the Daytons and Chi-Fi amp (not that they're necessarily bad - they're just not as good). I would have definitely gone that route if I didn't need a DAC and for them to be remote controlled.
