I never heard tube home audio equipment, but it's still hugely popular with musical instrument amplification. I don't particularly care one way or another what the tech is as long as it sounds good to me. I remember when I first bought my Reverend semi-hollow guitar and I tried it out on my small and fairly well regarded solid-state Vox combo amp and hated the way it sounded. I initially thought the pickups were trash and was planning on replacing them. It was so bad I set the guitar aside and didn't touch it for months. Eventually I tried it out on my tube combo amp and I was shocked by how good it sounded. The amp did have some nice old RCA power tubes and rectifier, though. I have since tried it on the Vox again just to be reminded that the setup still sounds like shit together.
