RE: Lots of people in my circle of friends
The Donald, meanwhile, gains significant yardage in his drive to become the most unpopular president in U.S. history. He could salvage a few tatters of respectability by conceding and behaving himself during the holidays. Instead, he'll probably throw himself into a scorched earth campaign, fomenting bad foreign relations, trying to clog up the courts, and, on his final day, making a do-do on the Oval Office desk. I would try not to laugh at this last gesture, but I would fail. He can be very charming when he tries.
All this may make you feel sorry for Joe, but the worst thing he'll face is his adoring horde. I like to imagine them panting and drooling on the White House lawn, their tails wagging fiercely in anticipation of some great magic trick, like fixing racism, or fixing THE PANDEMIC, or maybe just causing everyone's porch lights to flicker on and off in unison.
And then . . . uh, erm, well see, they'll have to cope with things not getting fixed. Remember how cool it was when that kid died and everybody had a day off from school so they could attend his funeral if they wanted to, which almost nobody did because hey, it was a free day, but then they had to go back to school so the kid might as well not have died? It'll be kind of like that.
At least one hopes it'll be like that and not like, you know, too many failures happening too fast, which would be more like what happens in history every time too many failures happen too fast.
Well, at least there's the media to keep everything in perspective.
