Subject: RE: Lots of people in my circle of friends

I don't watch the news to know how much they go ga-ga over Biden, but it doesn't surprise me given that most outlets are left of center. Though it's not any different from most right leaning outlets swooning over Trump and his cult of personality. Having lived in Kansas for almost 6 years working a blue collar job, I've never experienced anything like the level of fervor for Trump before. In fact, I'm now in Denver working a similar job, and it's pretty much the same. I find that the hardcore "conservatives" are just as insufferable as hardcore "liberals", and they both have their share of snowflake types. I suspect that if you think it's limited to one side, then you're probably one of the others. Most of the things people seem to be angry about are things that are either blown out of proportion or don't affect them at all, and very few of them are anything a president can do anything about anyway. Yeah, PC culture has run amok, and that drove some to Trump, but trying to push the pendulum hard the other way will eventually result in it swinging back just as hard. People are good at making bad situations worse. Great, so we wasted 4 years with no noteworthy legacy other than having the dumb luck of being able to appoint 3 supreme court judges along with easing of some important banking and other regulations. Lucky us.

I watched Biden's speech, and I wasn't surprised that it was totally underwhelming and filled with vague promises (as is typical for ALL politicians, so nothing new here) along with requisite mentions of dubious hot-button topics. That was on YouTube, so off in the recommendations list was a video of him being awarded the Medal of Freedom by surprise, and for some reason I decided to watch it, which actually made my respect for him go up enormously. Since he wasn't expecting it, he didn't have a prepared speech, and in turn displayed enormous sincerity and humbleness, which for me are some of the most important traits a person could have. Those behaviors are the polar opposite of Trump. It's not that I detest all his policies (though there's plenty I do), but rather that he's just a shitty asshole with almost non-existent displays of humility and empathy, while most of his charming displays are hollow schmoozing that is typical of a conman. And that's topped off with being a ridiculously petty narcissist. I wouldn't like him even if he was a poor shitbag that didn't stand a snowball's chance in hell of being the president.
