How to learn about double secret probation history that's guarded by killer robots:
1. Go to a library and find a set of Encyclopedia Britannica. Look up a topic, read about it, and make a copy of the "Further Reading" notes. These will usually be introductory overviews of a period or subject. They'll be old, but that's fine.
2. Look at the library's card catalogue to see if they have these overviews or related items. Make use of interlibrary loan.
3. Read the overviews and see if you want to follow up on subtopics. Look at the bibliographies in the overviews.
4. Use step 2 to get subtopic books/articles. Use step 3 to follow up on more focused subtopics.
5. To avoid detection by killer robots and autoturrets, dress up as Huckleberry Hound or other cartoon character.
