I noticed right away in your first reply that you are not taking into consideration how difficult it is to sculpt marble into a highly accurate, anatomically correct figures. That you do not truly understand what kind of feat this is. By comparison, painting with colors, even with limited variety, is trivial in all accounts. With certainty they would have had the ability to create masterwork paintings. Though you seem to put significant effort into avoiding this logic.

The romans are sort of a different story though, as much of their remaining work seems to be the product of a larger population with consequentially lower quality guilds, apprentiships or trade schools, likely done by more "common" type people, such as slaves or descendants from conquered people.
The Greeks on the otherhand definitely seem to produce a larger quantity of ancient masterwork art. Though both certainly had this capability and at least one single remnant of this work from both cultures combined, should definitely exist.
