RE: dxwnd is finally good
DS1 has the following problems:
1. It's a no-joke dungeon
crawl
. A lot of the "dungeons" are outside, but the principle is the same. If you move fast, your whole party will die.
2. The combat is non-stop. There's an encounter about every ten feet, and the enemies get to be repetitious.
3. The loot swapping is non-stop. After every encounter, you go through a gear and stat check for every party member. This is not strictly necessary, but it's advisable if tedious. Your party is very high-maintenance.
4. You get a ton of gear and spells you can't use because you're not advanced enough. You'll be tempted to use items that will artificially increase your attributes, but this is a bad idea. If you want to swap for another item, you lose the ability to use weapons, etc. that require the artificially raised attributes.
Cool things about DS1:
1. A party of eight is incredibly powerful. I would strongly advise having a couple of nature mages so members won't constantly be swilling potions in combat. Nonetheless, a fully party is really impressive.
2. Horror games bore me to tears, but in DS1 you'll need to get through a place called Wesrin Cross, and that place creeps. me. out. Be really careful in there and manage your party closely.
