I mean, is it any surprise? They talk about how horrible crunch is, how it should be banned in the industry, etc, but as soon as said developer releases said project, suddenly that all evaporates and there's no meaningful discussion on the subject. Ditto for shit like Ubisofts sexual misconduct allegations; that suddenly went by the wayside as soon as the new Assassins Creed game came out or Ubi announced a new project.

The gaming press is just an arm of the industry.

That said, have you read Masters of Doom? Great book. I read it again earlier this year and it's still really good, but damn if it doesn't need an update. I think the last dates in it are 2003. It's been longer since that book came out than between the book and Doom.

Talking about game journalism got me thinking about Jason Scheier, who apparently is great at revealing industry bullshit and writes well, but I've never actually read anything of his (though I have samples on my Kindle), which got me thinking about Masters of Doom again. I ought to read that one again...
