Also, the AI is pretty smart. They tend to make a bee line for nature mages. Maybe they're just trying to pick off the weakest party members first, but I think they're trying to interrupt healing magic. If your healer goes down, the other members get mauled in a kind of domino effect. It gives you a good understanding of how powerful enemy groups are and why you have to travel slowly. Unless you figure out alternatives, kiting becomes your main survival tactic.
This game is shamefully underappreciated. It has its flaws, but it's really great in its way.
