RE: good video game movies do exist
That's the correct spirit for watching the Rings and Hobbit movies. Unfortunately, when people start reading the books, they can't understand why Thorin Oakenshield doesn't look or behave like Richard Armitage; or why Frodo, Merry, and Pippin are middle-aged squire types instead of medieval fantasy frat bros; or why Legolas isn't shooting his bow while surfing down an oliphaunt's trunk.
The movies are epic video games. The books are an experiment in far more epic world-building.
