It's ALWAYS the ribbon cable
At least, from what I can tell after playing for ten or so minutes on my 3DS.
Finally got a new ABXY board yesterday, which meant between a new ribbon cable and pads, I got everything I needed to do a full swap of the board on my New 3DS. I did have an ABXY board a month or so ago, but it was DOA.
Anyway, after doing the full swap, it turns out the pads I got are completely wrong and not for my system and the new ABXY board is either DOA or incorrect. Looking at it closely, the power button cable has some contacts that go to the motherboard and it looks like the contacts inside of the cable are not long enough and thus don't actually make contact with the motherboard itself.
That said, after swapping everything back, with the exception of the ribbon cable, everything seems to work perfectly. I'll have to put some more time on the system, as I just played a level of Super Mario World and it seemed like my B-button was working great.
But, it's always the damn ribbon cables. My Vita had a problem last year and it turned out to be a ribbon cable in there; my Gameboy Pocket that I'm modding is having a problem (mod is only half complete), because the ribbon cable from the screen to the motherboard has failed, so I have a new one on the way.
