Thanks, mah friends, for your lovely posts. We did indeed go through three days without power. The first day consisted of rolling or "controlled" outages, where you would have power for a few minutes, then darkness for several more minutes. Then it just went out for two days.

Ordinarily, you would get in your car and spend the day in restaurants and stores, but they had no power either, and the roads were impossible to travel.

At least we had water most of the time. The city mains broke at one point, but our heroic water dept. fixed them.

It was fun (not) sitting in the dark in my coat, wrapped with quilts. We didn't have firewood, but we found some torn-off interior door trim in the garage. We also dismantled and burned part of a fence gate.

Ercot, the controlling power company in Texas, is in trouble for not winterizing their plants and generally being unprepared for all this, despite their reassurances to the governor beforehand. My fervent wish is that their officers get their guts sued out.
