back in the 90s my hometown in far upstate NY got slammed by an ice strom circa march 1, took out nearly literally all the trees *and* the utility poles. Most of those poles were put up in the 30s in back line of the properties instead of roadside.

My dad didn't get power back for nearly 3 weeks. Being a normally cold area and my father refusing to move the thermostat about 50, we always had 2 or 3 woodburning stoves even in the city, so it wasn't a catastrophe, excepting the squirrel that got down via the chimney
