I liked a lot about the new Shadow Warriors, but the combo silliness and certain other things just blocked me. I liked the take on Lo Wang more than I thought I would. Some of his lines and various gags are quite funny.
If anything, Doom Eternal is closer to what id was doing in 1993 than the grimdark corridor creeping in Doom 3. Doom 2016 is about half Doom 1/2 and half Doom 3. Eternal veers really wide of anything before it, but it also gets back to the color and silliness of the original game. I don't think Doom was ever intended as a serious thing. You have to remember that id gave you turkey dinners as health boosts in Wolfenstein 3D.
