Also, how crazy Bette Davis was I cannot say. She knew that she was a best-selling product and wasn't shy about protecting herself as companies protect brands. She was imperious, petulant, stiff-necked, and wrathful, but she could be magnanimous and very kind. She had a strange ability to extinguish her gargantuan ego and see things from a purely business perspective. When she seems vain in interviews, it's likely that she's thinking about good business instead of self-promotion.
Crazy or not, for a good while she was the greatest female star of Hollywood's greatest studio. She could easily kick Batman's ass -- possibly even Chuck Norris's.
