they most likely made her ugly on purpose.
probably because of grand hotel.
there was a chest scene, it didnt fit in with the rest of the film. it was like almost partial nudity of a breast, i havent seen anything like it before in any classic movie. pre code or not.
grand hotel is not a racy film, or a mature themed film, so that one scene was kind of far out there.
but grand hotel is pretty much the last "serious" (not a comedy) film she looked good in.
yeah they toned her way down permanently after that. they rearranged the heck out of her face like some kind of adjustable clown or mr. potato head or something.
the rest of her films are probably like a penance for some kind of huge lust demon her films unleased onto the world
she was just ultra too damn hot, its really interesting how attractive she really was. easily the most attractive actress of all time, but she isnt known for it. which is very strange.
