I came across something called a Perrin vacuum tube yesterday which doesn't have any application other than as an electron physics demonstration device primarily aimed at colleges. Because of this low-volume sales, their prices are quite high, on top of the fact that businesses that cater to this market already massively inflate their prices. Well, I noticed this particular company's amazon store had it listed at $41 vs. the $941 they list on their store page along with other retailers. Did they forget to stick a 9 in front of the price? I didn't particularly need it but couldn't help but to see if it would actually go through. Turns out it just shipped, and now they're out of stock, but it's listed at over $600, which is still cheaper than on their site. I have no idea what's going on, but I'll gladly take it for the price I paid.
A friend recently found a 3D printer for 12 cents on Amazon and bought it but a few days later the seller cancelled the sale. Yet someone else found an IP camera for that same amount including shipping, and actually received the item. I wouldn't be surprised if you could make a living scouring for these weird deals and then reselling them.
