Just wondering: am I a terrible person for thinking that the BFG is stupid?
I guess it was more or less okay in the original Doom. Nothing in that was to be taken very seriously, so a joke weapon wasn't out of place. In Eternal, it almost works but not really. In 2016, it doesn't belong at all.
The modern id Software just steps off too often like this. Either the Doom guy should be taken seriously or he shouldn't. You can make him a space marine crusader knight with a serious mission and background, or you can give him a Wyle E. Coyote weapon and make him a joke. You can't do both in the same game world.
