They do free weekends on ESO regularly on Steam, so you could just wait for one of those if you're on the fence about it.
I tried it out on one of their free days and it's like an outsourced unpolished Oblivion but more grindy. I'm sure it's more rewarding to build model trains or whatever it is you're doing than it is to play that game.
