The guns in this game are strange -- I mean apart from sprouting legs and turning themselves into bombs. I'm lvl 27 and have a level 16 legendary pistol that just mauls everything still. Same with the Boo+ machine gun. Then I find epics and rares for my level that hardly make a dent. Some legendaries are plain stupid no matter what level they are, like the thrown pistol that becomes a bomb. Great, right? It would be if the pistol reliable sought out enemies. Instead, it flies around the room and does random things. About half the time it explodes in my face. Then there's the legendary smg that charges you $1 every time you fire a bullet. That's the only thing special about it.
Then sometimes you get a rare that remains unbelievably good for a long time, like the assault rifle I have. It doesn't seem to have any uber stats, but it crits everything, and the fire rate, reload speed, and handling are perfect. I have to remember to put it in my safe when if it ever becomes outleveled.
