I have a weak spot for that big passel of trashy small town scandal movies that started coming out in the latter 1950s. Everybody started trying to source Tennessee Williams, William Styron, and in the case of The Long, Hot Summer, William Faulkner, which was more Peyton Place than Faulkner. They're all hilarious in their clumsy attempts to be daring and salacious. Very entertaining. Any of them will do. Just look for clues like small towns run by "big daddy" bosses with feisty, attractive daughters. The best big daddies are Orson Welles and Burl Ives. Good daughter candidates include Joanne Woodward and Carol Baker. You can't go wrong.
