RE: it gets me every time
Also, it's one thing to lose a horse, but can you imagine the shame of losing a mammoth?
GUARD: "You seem troubled. Let me buy you a drink. I'll tell you about the time I took an arrow . . . hey, why are you crying?"
YOU: "I can't talk about it."
GUARD: "Aw, nothing can be that terrible . . . unless you lost a mammoth."
YOU: " . . . "
GUARD: "That's it! You lost a mammoth. Oh good heavens. How could you do that?"
YOU: " . . . don't tell anybody . . ."
GUARD: "Sven, come here! You'll never guess what this chap did."
SVEN: "Well, by the looks of him, only two things would qualify. One is taking an arrow to the knee. The other . . . oh, you're kidding. You lost a mammoth? Really?"
GUARD: "Remember when Olaf lost that big mad mammoth during the Jarl's birthday party and it knocked over a lantern in the stable?"
SVEN: "Olaf was punished for that."
GUARD: "Had to stand in front of a firing squad and take an arrow to the knee."
YOU: "Can one of you kill me?"
SVEN: "Not in my job description, laddie. Unless you kick a chicken."
