I think ILA said he saw my old name in his friend list like a wispy gray ghost - said I had been inactive for 600 years or something. So I guess they didn't delete it. I just thought that because the Bliz tech guy I talked to back when I was trying to get them to update my email said that he couldn't find anything on me -- and I gave him everything in the world.
Maybe they're really good at hiding accounts from themselves.
Anyway, I don't have to worry about any of that because I gave them more money for games I'd already bought and got a brand new account, which was the right thing to do.
