see its hard for me to accurately describe how this operates.
you may be thinking that the controller is manipulated using the tips of your fingers, but it is not.

its more like placing your entire palm over the controller and sliding your fingers across it.
the left stick is controlled by the index tip and your index is constantly resting on it.. flatly. i suppose this would be horizontally, in a flat position. your entire hand is comfortably resting over the controller.
but its very easy to shift your hand while the index is flat over the left thumbstick
the only movement you make is lifting, or moving back your right two fingers, the ring and the pinky, while the index rests on sort of a fulcrum. very little effort is involved and very high precession with the left thumbstick (controlling the mouse) is to be had.
the right stick for scrolling does not require precision, so its usually operated by the area of your ring finger which is near the knuckle. this may seem like an awkward position but its actually not because of how well the stick is positioned against it. all you do is pull your fingers back and forth, its a very basic motion and very easy to accomplish with your hand being in such position over the controller
