RE: wizard tips?
The wizard's most important attribute is INT. It drives her damage output and her protection in the form of resistance to all magic elements (all res). The best drops in early game should have an increase in INT. Vitality isn't as important as it was in D2. The other attributes (STR, DEX) offer nothing to the wizard's improvement.
Later on, you'll start seeing items with increased arcane power on critical hit. These are useful. Right now, assuming you're in the campaign and not on some ridiculous Master difficulty, you can just manually regulate arcane power use by using lower level spells and saving the big ones for champions and elites.
Disintegrate is the best ROI arcane-based spell as you're leveling. It does a ton of damage and uses AP reasonably. If you need crowd control, use low level cold spells.
You just don't need much in the campaign, which you should be playing in Normal difficulty, as Hard and higher don't really give you that much XP. The best way to increase XP is to put the biggest ruby you can get into Leoric's Crown, which you should get for killing the Skeleton King. You'll get stronger versions of Leoric's Crown later.
Really, there's nothing tricky about leveling a wizard. It's not at all like the D2 sorceress. You don't really need to buy anything or craft anything. Just pick up what you find with INT, increase to damage, Arcane Power regen, etc. Pick up all the gold you find and divide your loot half and half -- sell 50%, break down the rest for crafting materials, even white loot. This will help you later.
You need to save all the money you can so you can spend it later on upgrading the craft NPCs - blacksmith, gem guy, mystic. They won't do you a lot of good during the campaign, but they will be essential past lvl 70 in Adventure mode. Once you get there, the game really begins, but that's for another post.
