Subject: RE: The new Dune

Coming from someone who has read the first novel, I was under the impression that this new adaptation was to be a series rather than a two part movie. Dune is one of those stories so extensive in scope that anything short of a series is going to feel extremely abridged.

Thankfully it seems the core message has been retained in Villeneuve's adaptation with only the typical set of changes that a novel-to-film adaptation goes through, some characters go on for a bit longer than their original counterparts, some go for shorter, some receive very little development in comparison (Yueh comes to mind instantly) but overall I didn't feel any important component from the novel was missing here, well, besides the entire latter half.

So I did like it quite a lot and I'd love the opportunity to see it again on an IMAX screen, hopefully back-to-back once both parts are available.
