Watch the use of light and shadow here, as well as the attention to costuming and makeup. Bergman's outfit shouldn't work. The stripes are going the wrong way. The shift over the stripes is a ridiculous combination. The hat is crazy. But it's all so exquisitely designed and fitted -- and the hat's shadowing is so deliberate -- and the camera work is so perfectly planned and executed -- that it would be unimaginable for her to wear anything else.
